Today our healthcare system is under considerable pressure as our population continues to age and people live longer than previous generations. Yet as we enter a time in our lives when access to excellent quality care is vital, St. Martha’s faces significant challenges to ensure we provide the best care possible as we have for generations.

Since April 2015, with the exception of the IWK, only one health authority manages operational decisions for all Nova Scotia hospitals, leaving St. Martha’s with much less input on regional priorities and a much greater financial burden. With an annual operating cost of over $90 million, St. Martha’s receives less than 1% of its annual budget from the province, only $37,000  in 2016, to maintain it’s present needs as well as providing medical advancements in technology, equipment and training.  It’s simply not enough!
